It may not be “just getting older.”

Why hormones matter

Hormones decline. Symptoms follow.

Estrogen swings sharply in perimenopause and then drops after menopause. Progesterone starts declining in your mid-30s and often falls more than 75% by menopause. Testosterone, DHEA and pregnenolone drop about half between 25 and 50.

Women now live 30 to 40 years after menopause, and research shows that women who start hormone therapy before 60 have lower overall mortality. This stage of life deserves real attention.

When estrogen declines

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Vaginal dryness and painful sex
  • Mood swings, anxiety, low mood
  • Brain fog and memory lapses
  • Thinning skin

Longer-term effects

  • Bone loss and osteoporosis risk
  • Higher cardiovascular risk
  • Rising cholesterol
  • Urinary infections and urgency

Questions

BHRT FAQ

More answers about the practice are in the general FAQ.

What is BHRT?

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy uses hormones chemically identical to the ones your body makes, to restore balance during perimenopause and menopause.

How is it different from traditional hormone therapy?

Older hormone therapy often used synthetic or animal-derived hormones. Bioidentical hormones are plant-derived and structurally identical to human hormones, which may improve tolerability and offer a better safety profile.

Who is a good candidate?

Women with perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, poor sleep, low libido or vaginal dryness. I review your history, symptoms and labs to decide whether BHRT is right for you. Some younger women with hormone imbalances may benefit too.

Is BHRT safe?

Treatment is personalized and closely monitored. Your medical history, risk factors and regular follow-up labs guide every dose, which makes it a safe and effective option for many women.

Do I need labs before starting?

Yes. Comprehensive labs show your hormone levels and overall health so treatment is personalized. These labs are usually covered by insurance.

How soon will I feel better?

Many women notice improvement within days to a few weeks. Optimal results often take a few months as we fine-tune your doses.

Can BHRT help my bones?

Yes. Estrogen helps maintain bone density, so BHRT can lower the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. It also supports joint health.

Will BHRT make me gain weight?

Balanced hormones usually support a healthy metabolism and body composition. We also work on nutrition and lifestyle to help you maintain a healthy weight.
