Bioidentical Hormone Therapy
for women

Female Hormonal Decline Can Affect Optimal Health & Wellness
Hormones naturally decline with age.
-
Estrogen levels fluctuate dramatically during perimenopause before dropping sharply after menopause.
-
Progesterone begins declining in the mid-30s and often falls over 75% by menopause.
-
Testosterone, DHEA, and pregnenolone decline approximately 50% from age 25 to 50, with further reductions by age 75.
-
Melatonin production also drops significantly with age.
Importantly, research shows that women who initiate hormone therapy before age 60 have an overall reduced mortality. As women now live 30–40 years past menopause, this stage of life deserves critical attention.
Negative Effects of Declining Estrogen Levels
When estrogen declines during menopause, it can impact many aspects of a woman's health, leading to:
-
Hot flashes and night sweats disrupting sleep and comfort
-
Vaginal dryness and discomfort during intimacy
-
Mood swings, anxiety, or depression due to neurotransmitter changes
-
Bone loss increasing the risk of osteoporosis
-
Skin thinning and loss of elasticity
-
Increased cardiovascular risk (less protection for heart and vessels)
-
Disrupted lipid metabolism (elevated cholesterol)
-
Urinary tract changes leading to more infections or urgency
-
Cognitive changes like memory lapses or brain fog
Bottom line: Estrogen decline in menopause has wide-ranging effects on the body, impacting physical, emotional, and sexual health.

How do I get started with GLP-1 weight loss treatment?Start by booking a virtual consultation. We’ll review your health history, discuss your goals, and determine if semaglutide or tirzepatide is the right fit for you. We’ll also help you create a personalized plan to support lasting results.
-
How are semaglutide and tirzepatide administered? They’re given as once-weekly subcutaneous (under the skin) injections. We’ll show you exactly how to administer them at home, making it convenient and easy to follow.
-
Are semaglutide and tirzepatide FDA-approved for weight loss?Yes! Semaglutide (Wegovy®) is FDA-approved for chronic weight management. Tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes with strong weight loss benefits and is commonly prescribed off-label for weight loss under medical supervision.
-
What are GLP-1 medications for weight loss?GLP-1 medications like semaglutide (Wegovy®) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) are prescription injectable treatments that help support weight loss by regulating appetite, slowing stomach emptying, and improving blood sugar control.
-
Are there side effects of semaglutide and tirzepatide?Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, or reduced appetite. We start with low doses and gradually increase to improve tolerability and reduce side effects.
-
How long will I need to take GLP-1 medications? They’re designed for ongoing weight management. Many patients stay on them long-term, but plans are individualized based on your goals, progress, and tolerance. We’ll reassess regularly to ensure you’re on the best path.
-
How much weight can I lose with GLP-1 injections? Results vary, but clinical studies show average weight loss of 12–20% of body weight over time when paired with healthy nutrition and lifestyle changes. We’ll tailor your plan to support long-term, sustainable success. Tirzepatide results in greater weight loss when compared to semaglutide.
-
Is GLP-1 weight loss available in Austin and across Texas?Absolutely! We provide virtual functional medicine and weight loss support for clients in Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and anywhere in Texas. Our approach is personalized, evidence-based, and convenient.
-
Do you offer GLP-1 weight loss programs in Texas?Yes! We offer virtual consultations for GLP-1 weight loss programs throughout Texas, including Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and beyond. Get expert guidance from the comfort of your home.
-
Who is a good candidate for GLP-1 weight loss injections?GLP-1 medications may be appropriate for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher (obesity), 27 or higher with weight-related conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, and even for those with a BMI over 24 who may benefit from improved blood sugar control, reduced inflammation, or other metabolic health goals. We’ll review your health history and goals to determine if they’re the right choice for you.
-
How do semaglutide and tirzepatide help with weight loss? Both medications mimic the body’s natural GLP-1 hormone to help you feel fuller longer, reduce cravings, and support sustainable calorie reduction. Tirzepatide also targets GIP receptors for an additional effect on insulin sensitivity and appetite control.
-
How long does it take to feel better on BHRT?Many women start noticing improvements within a days to a few weeks, but optimal results often take a few months as we fine-tune your doses and approach. Ongoing follow-ups help ensure you continue feeling your best while keeping safety in mind.
-
Is BHRT only for menopause?BHRT is most commonly used for menopause and perimenopause, but some younger women with hormonal imbalances may also benefit. Each case is assessed individually to ensure appropriateness and safety.
-
How is BHRT administered?BHRT can be delivered through creams, gels, patches, troches (lozenges), or capsules, depending on individual needs and goals. Your plan is customized for safety, efficacy, and your preference.
-
Is BHRT safe?BHRT is personalized and carefully monitored. For many women, it offers a safe and effective way to manage menopausal symptoms. We tailor treatment plans based on medical history, risk factors, and regular follow-up assessments to maximize safety.
-
Do I need lab testing before starting BHRT?Yes. We perform comprehensive lab testing to assess your hormone levels, overall health, and individual needs. This ensures your treatment is personalized and evidence-informed. These labs are typically covered by insurance.
-
What is BHRT?BHRT stands for Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy. It uses hormones that are chemically identical to those your body naturally produces to help restore optimal balance during perimenopause and menopause. We offer BHRT consults in Austin and virtually across the entire State of Texas.
-
Can BHRT help with bone health?Yes! Estrogen plays a vital role in maintaining bone density. BHRT can help reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures associated with menopause-related bone loss. It also supports joint health by reducing inflammation and maintaining the lubrication and integrity of joints.
-
Will BHRT make me gain weight? Many women fear hormone therapy will cause weight gain, but balanced hormones can actually support healthy metabolism and body composition. We work with you to optimize overall lifestyle factors to help maintain a healthy weight.
-
How is BHRT different from traditional hormone therapy?Traditional HRT often uses synthetic or animal-derived hormones. BHRT uses plant-derived compounds that are structurally identical to human hormones, which may improve tolerability, effectiveness, and offer a better safety profile for women.
-
Who is a good candidate for BHRT in Texas?Women experiencing menopausal or perimenopausal symptoms—such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disturbances, low libido, or vaginal dryness— benefit. We evaluate each woman’s health history, symptoms, and labs to determine if BHRT is right for her.
-
Is BHRT covered by insurance in Texas?Coverage varies by plan. While some insurance may cover lab testing or pharmacy-dispensed hormones, compounded bioidentical preparations are often an out-of-pocket expense. We’ll help you understand all costs upfront and will always work with you to choose the solution that best fits your needs and budget.

What is the difference between functional vs. traditional medicine? The distinction between functional and traditional medicine lies in their approach. Traditional medicine typically takes a reactive stance, treating the symptoms directly. On the other hand, functional medicine adopts a proactive approach, seeking to identify and address the root causes of symptoms. It aims to provide long-term relief and enhance overall health by resolving underlying issues, rather than merely masking or managing symptoms that may signal serious health problems or worsen over time.

As a functional medicine provider, I cannot serve as your primary care provider, as certain services, such as physical exams and the management of acute or urgent conditions, cannot be handled virtually. While functional medicine adds valuable expertise, it is not a substitute for conventional medicine when it comes to acute, urgent, or serious medical issues. For emergencies, please utilize your local urgent care or emergency room.
-
How many visits will I need?Every case is individual. The number of needed visits depend on the complexity and severity of your symptoms and conditions. What role do hormones play in my health and why are they so important?Hormones are essential to our body's biochemistry, influencing both our physical and mental well-being. They also play a crucial role in the risk of developing conditions such as diabetes, Alzheimer's, and heart disease. Hormonal imbalances can occur for various reasons, disrupting both physical and emotional health. Additionally, as we age, hormone levels naturally decline, leading to issues like sexual dysfunction, weight gain, hot flashes, and mood swings. By restoring hormonal balance, we address the root cause of your symptoms, reduce the risk of serious health conditions, and help you feel more youthful, energized, and vibrant.
-
What is included in your services?Virtual functional medicine appointments via a secure tele-medicine application, which saves time and energy. However, there are a few key changes that most patients are expected to implement, including: Diet and nutrition Stress management Movement and exercise Sleep hygiene
-
Why is gut health so important in functional medicine? In recent decades, research has revealed surprising connections between the gut and various parts of our body. Known as the gut microbiome, our digestive system contains both beneficial and harmful bacteria. Factors like pregnancy, antibiotics, stress, and diet can all affect the gut microbiome, influencing our mood, cognition, and even pain levels. We now understand that the gut plays a crucial role in producing neurotransmitters like serotonin and is responsible for 90% of our immune system function. These are just a few examples of how the gut impacts every system in our body. It’s clear that imbalances in gut health can have a profound effect on our overall well-being if not addressed. Functional and integrative medicine aims to improve gut function.
-
Are labs included? No, labs are additional. Some basic labs can be run through your insurance, but most labs used by functional medicine providers are considered specialty and are not covered by insurance.
